What will become of K-pop in the future? (2023 - ???)

I n my recent blogs, I have talked about the 4 generations of K-pop and how it has evolved over the years, with its music, style, dance and how one generation creates a new path for the next. All I know is that K-pop won't stop at any time as it has now become such a worldwide sensation!  Over the current years, K-pop artists have been invited to perform their new release songs in the West to promote their albums and let the younger generation know of this type of music. Some artists even had the chance to be invited to well-known shows and events to perform at, such as The Jimmy Fallon Show, Coachella and the American Music Awards. The 4th Generation of K-pop (2017-2023)

I n today's generation of K-pop, content is shared constantly. K-pop is now not unknown to anyone in the world like it was before. Social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. There is now a new platform TikTok. This sharing platform is much more efficient for many people, including K-pop artists, to be able to fully connect with their fans easily and promote their own groups anytime, anywhere. TikTok is used more by K-pop idols to share dance challenges of their new music, even collaborating with other artists. Fans can create videos of them dancing to the music and sharing the content on other social media platforms. The 3rd Generation of K-pop (2012 - 2017)

2 012 – 2017, the 3 rd generation of K-pop. Taking K-pop to a whole new level of recognition, making K-pop well-known in Western countries. From 2009 - 2012 this was the time K-pop took the world by storm as mentioned in my blog post “The 2 nd Generation of K-pop” , with it creating a whole new path for future artists and thus being generation 3! This generation was well-known by artists such as EXO, BTS, Twice, Blackpink, GOT 7, Seventeen and many others! The 2nd Generation of K-pop (2003 - 2012)

F rom 2003 to 2012 was the era of the new K-pop, widening K-pop internationally. This was also the time in which YouTube was created on February 14 th , 2005. A platform where anyone could upload videos of their interests, music, make-up and many more.  This created a huge opportunity for K-pop, to be able to upload their music videos on this platform, creating a bigger following and gaining new fans from all over the world, w ith its eccentric style of music, dance and fashion. Groups such as Big Bang, 2NE1, Girls Generation and the famous singer that went viral, PSY, with his infamous song “Gangnam Style” took the world by storm.  Some few other songs that went viral during these years may ring a bell to you. The 1st Generation of K-pop (1990-2003)

Seo Taiji and Boys debuted in 1990  T he first generation of K-pop started in 1990 to 2003 . With famous groups such as Seo Taiji & Boys, Sechs Kies, Shinhwa and many more. This started a new wave of music with rap and sync choreography taking music to a different level in South Korea. With their unique music videos and dances, this is what led to K-pop to what it is today.  The most well-known K-pop group were Seo Taiji & Boys debuting in 1991 and releasing their famous song “Come Back Home” in 1995. Which has led other groups to cover their own versions of the song in recent years.
