The 4th Generation of K-pop (2017-2023)

In today's generation of K-pop, content is shared constantly. K-pop is now not unknown to anyone in the world like it was before. Social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. There is now a new platform TikTok. This sharing platform is much more efficient for many people, including K-pop artists, to be able to fully connect with their fans easily and promote their own groups anytime, anywhere.

TikTok is used more by K-pop idols to share dance challenges of their new music, even collaborating with other artists. Fans can create videos of them dancing to the music and sharing the content on other social media platforms.

4th Generation is all about social media presence, going live for fans to interact, sharing their life through Instagram stories and posts, and connecting to fans more than ever compared to the generations before who had limited access. Today's generation has the freedom to expand their content through social media, this is what makes it possible for them. Even when there are people on these platforms that are not a fan of K-pop they could also chime in to the music or research their new interest in a group. With fans now creating these “Fan accounts” for their favourite groups, they help promote by sharing their content and spreading good word of mouth through these social platforms.

Well-known groups in this generation are New Jeans, G-idle, IVE, and SKZ (Stray Kids). Their new vibe of music and social presence towards fans have made them very well-loved in the K-pop industry and from all around the world.

This song is what got me into the group SKZ with their different vibe and style of music compared to others.

G-Idle always had a different style of music compared to other girl groups. And this song was very different from other K-pop songs.

The biggest group right now is New Jeans, having debuted in 2022, they have created a massive following within the year with also having their songs going viral each time. Omg and Super Shy. In my opinion, I can say this group is going to be the next thing to make K-pop more popular in this generation, creating a bigger path for those future idols in the later years to come.

Here are some of my favourite songs from the second generation. Feel free to check them out or recommend some of your favourites in the comments!
